The SELECTIVE project: Successful Completion of Madrid’s Charging Pilot

MOVEN, our technological firm and founder of «El Futuro de la Movilidad» Alliance, has successfully contributed to the SELECTIVE project, designed to improve the accesibility of charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) users. The project addresses the vast potential presented by thousands of private charging points in our cities. This international initiative, supported by EIT Urban Mobility—an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union—has successfully completed the pilot phase, focused on optimizing the efficiency of the existing charging infrastructure.

In response to the growing need for availability of charging stations for electric vehicle (EV) users, the SELECTIVE project has concluded its Madrid’s pilot located in Calle de Piamonte, 23, at Impact Hub Madrid. The pilot program is a testament to the seamless integration of sustainable mobility solutions within co-working environments, catering specifically to the dynamic community of Impact Hub Madrid.

Operated by Charge Up, the pilot unfolded between November 1st and November 24th, 2023. MOVEN, as partner of the consortium, playing a critical role, has facilitated and promoted the pilot’s execution at the Impact Hub Madrid co-working space. This location served as a dynamic environment catering specifically to urban professionals, aligning seamlessly with the goals of sustainable commuting and green mobility solutions.

The community charging approach aims to:

  • Increase the availability of private charging stations for other electric car users.
  • Enhance the effectiveness of the existing charging station network.
  • Improve the overall electric car charging experience.

With a strategic focus on the business hours of co-workers, the charging strategy aligns seamlessly with the daily rhythms of urban work life. The station is meant to be accessible from 9 am to 7 pm, Monday through Friday, ensuring availability during peak working hours.

Sharing charging stations not only facilitates a faster return on investment related to building the charging point but also represents a meaningful contribution to the development of electromobility and the reduction of greenhouse gases.

The pilot technology features the advanced Wallbox Copper SB as its chosen charging infrastructure, boasting a maximum output of 22 kW. This state-of-the-art charging hub accommodates a diverse range of electric vehicle models, solidifying its position as a versatile asset for the electric mobility community.

In essence, this pilot site stands as a pioneering model for transforming private parking spaces within co-working environments into vital hubs for sustainable urban mobility. This initiative marks a significant stride toward a greener and more environmentally conscious future for the city of Madrid.

On behalf of MOVEN, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all members of the consortium and other entities involved for their outstanding collaboration in the successful pilot in Madrid for the SELECTIVE project. The dedication and commitment of each participating entity and person have been fundamental elements in achieving the proposed objectives and turning this project into a concrete reality. We are extremely satisfied with the results obtained, and consider that this experience lays the foundations for future significant advances in the field of electric mobility. The synergistic collaboration between MOVEN, Charge Up, CARNET, POWERHUB and Škoda and the rest of the consortium has proven to be essential, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration to drive innovation and sustainability in the field of charging infrastructure. We thank everyone for their dedication and valuable contribution to this exciting project.
